Montrose Veterans 100% Record
Montrose Soccer Club’s Veterans have won the Bayside League Veterans division with a 100% winning record.
Last Sunday (12/09) the Montrose Veterans ventured down to Rosebud for the last game of an extremely successful season. Having already won the Veteran’s division with 3 games to spare the game presented an opportunity to see whether the Veteran’s could finish the season with 15 wins out of 15.
Rosebud finished runners up to Montrose so this was always going to be a difficult game to win. In windy conditions Montrose won the toss of the coin and kicked with the aid of the wind. Early pressure by Montrose didn’t result in any clear cut chances and it took half an hour before Montrose opened the scoring. Simon Middleton finished off a move from defence to attack with a left foot strike high into the top of the net. Rosebud hit back quickly however and deservedly equalised soon after to send the teams in all square at half time.
Playing against the wind in the second half was always going to be a difficult task for Montrose and it was no surprise to see Rosebud on top. Montrose held on repelling attack after attack and even managed to score against the run of play with 10 minutes left in the game. Again it was Simon Middleton who rifled home another shot high into the net. It wasn’t over yet though, Rosebud continued to pile on the pressure and only a magnificent finger tipping save by goalkeeper Kevin Kershaw close to full time helped preserve Montrose’s 100% winning record.
The season however continues for the Veterans. Next weekend Montrose again travels down to Rosebud to play in the semi final of the Bayside Cup. A victory in that competition would see Montrose Veterans winning all 3 trophies in 2010 having also won the pre-season Charity Shield earlier this year.

Montrose Ladies have second win!
The lovely Montrose Ladies have finished the season off with a bang defeating Rosebud 1-0 on Sunday.
Going into the game, anyone would have been forgiven to think that Rosebud would be victors considering they were sitting 3rd on the BFA Womens League Table. But our ladies went in with a never say never attitude, and with a beautiful play up the wing by Shae in the 35th minute, the keeper came out to far from the goal and she kicked it gracefully past the keeper and another Rosebud player into the bottom left corner.
Montrose Ladies went in with a 1-0 lead at half time.
With the crowd growing of Montrosean's and also them getting louder, the support was enourmous and too overpowering for the skilled and determined Rosebud.
Stu-Dog was a very happy dog, and the girls celebrated with a good drowning of him!
Fantastic effort girls with 2 wins this year - can't wait to see what 2011 brings!
On the mend
All out well wishes to Dougie 'Macca' Nolan after a terrible fall off a 2 storey building last week, after being rushed to the Royal Melbourne, he is slowly on the mend which is great to see. Hopefully we'll see him pull on the Montrose colours again before the end of the season once his headache is gone!
We wish you all the best for a speedy recovery Dougie.
